Manderley Turf Builds Floating Green for RBC Canadian Open Shootout RBC

Canadian Open, Toronto, Canada, July 22, 2008 — For decades Manderley Turf Products has been supplying and installing sod for Canada’s top golf courses such as Glen Abbey, Muskoka Bay and Mont Tremblant- Le Geant. However, last week the company did something they’ve never done before – they transformed a utility barge into a floating golf course for the RBC Canadian Open Million Dollar Shootout being held at Polson’s Pier in Toronto, Ontario July 16-23.

“We’ve done some pretty interesting projects in our time—such as installing an entire field for championship soccer at the Rogers Center in 17 hours and replacing a golf green overnight—but this is the first floating green for us,” said Chris Hope, chief of agronomy at Manderley. “It’s amazing to think that there’s real grass green floating out there in Lake Ontario. Participates in the RBC Canadian Open $1,000,000 Shootout will find that their golf ball will respond as if they were playing on a regular course – it will hold the green and roll true.”

In the days leading up to the 2008 RBC Canadian Open, a floating golf green will be anchored in the Toronto Harbour, 165 yards from Polson Pier. Golfers will take aim from an elevated tee deck to be closest to the pin, to win prizes such as a new car, golf clubs, a trip and passes to the 2008 RBC Canadian Open, and to qualify for their shot at the $1 Million Grand Prize.
