Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the dimensions of Manderley's big roll?

Dimensions vary slightly across our various production locations, but the typical dimensions are 42 inches wide by 103 feet long (360 square feet). Once you know how much sod you require, your local Manderley production center will cut the desired number of rolls to fulfill your order.

I'm a contractor. Can I install big roll by myself?

To install on your own, we strongly recommend that you have 3-point hitch assembly and adequate heavy equipment to lift a 1600-lb roll. Where available, most contractors choose to let Manderley do the installation. Our equipment is specifically designed to lift and install big rolls much more efficiently.

What's better: big roll or small roll?

Each size has its advantages depending on installation needs. Some contractors choose the big size for efficiency because one roll will cover 360 square feet at a time. The reduction in seams is another big-roll advantage. While, installation does require specialized equipment, for larger areas the big roll is a much more cost-efficient choice. The small roll is more versatile and flexible (e.g., for installing in tight spaces), but installation may take considerably longer.

How long will freshly cut sod keep on the job site?

Fresh sod is a highly perishable product: the warmer the outside temperature, the less time you have to leave sod idle. During the hottest months of the year, you may have as little as 2 to 4 hours before the core temperature of the sod and the outside temperature combine to cause heat damage. For this reason, we recommend installation during the cooler times of the day or in the evening. Once laid, the sod will need an immediate soaking to cool the turf and initiate root penetration.
